Teeing It Up

Since I am currently infected with a major dose of Masters Fever, I had to get out to the range this weekend and took Josh along. Each time I take him out to hit balls he gets better. He managed to rip a few good 5 irons straight down the middle (his Dunlop kids clubs have 5/6, 7/8, 9/PW combo irons). He's getting better at not trying to kill the ball every time. I plan on trying to get him enrolled in some formal golf instruction course next year. The problem is that he's "good" at too many sports right now. Teeball (he was probably the best batter in class today) and soccer are his two best sports and there's no way he's not going to grow up learning golf. Surprisingly, the sport that might have to sit on the back burner for now is basketball. Unfortunately he's inherited his b-ball skills from good ol' Dad. Here's another YouTube special from the range yesterday.

As for golf, my plan is to take him out on a local Par 3 course sometime soon. We're lucky to live in an area with a plethora of Par 3 courses nearby. My idea is to take Josh, my brother and probably Doe out in a foursome and have Josh play his own ball and "learn the ropes" of the sport. I just want him to get used to the rules of golf as up to now he just knows how to "crank one" off the mat at the range. I'm sure he'll shoot well over 100 for 9 holes, but at least he'll get some experience playing "real" golf. I'm thinking we may try to take him out for 9 shortly after Daughter is born so he'll have a chance to go have some fun with Dad after all the attention is bestowed upon the first Granddaughter in the Rose/Gecik family.

I just have to satisfy my golf itch somehow. I was hitting some phenomenal drives and 4 irons at the range yesterday and can't wait to play 18 again. Not sure how that is going to happen with the third child on the way though. At least Tiger Woods Golf 10 for the Wii comes out in two months.
